LD 1020
As you may know, the effort to defeat the counterfeit marriage proposal must continue, step-by-step, since the legislation has been approved in the Maine Senate. Still pending are votes in the Maine House, where approval appears likely, and then consideration by the Governor, who has not taken a position on the bill and will face much pressure from gay marriage supporters.
Please take time today to write and mail a short letter to Governor Baldacci asking him to veto this legislation. We owe a duty a citizens to encourage him to do right.
Please also send an email of thanks and encouragement to Pastor Bob Emrich, of the Maine Jeremiah Project, who has been tireless and faithful to God in his opposition to this bad legislation. You may email him via the Maine Jeremiah Project web site.
Bob Emrich writes [I myself added the underlined part]:
We are encouraged by the growing numbers of churches and individuals who have been taking the time to be informed and active in the struggle to preserve marriage n Maine. And we would like to give a heartfelt “THANK YOU” to those who took time to contact legislators, attend hearings and make more contacts. We have yet to see the outcome we desire and the world has yet to see the power of a wide-awake church. But we will and they will. Don’t give up!
God bless,
Pastor Bob Emrich
Here is the short text of my letter, being mailed today:
To Governor Baldacci:
You may soon receive LD 1020 from the Legislature for your consideration. This proposed law eviscerates Maine’s excellent law on marriage. It creates a counterfeit of true marriage, which has been created by God to consist of one man and one woman united in holy matrimony.
I urge you to veto this bill if and when it is presented to you. This is very bad legislation.
Thank you,
Again, dear friends, please be faithful in prayer to God and in petition to the Governor.
Thank you,
Bob Simpson
