We Americans have traditionally believed that God is the sovereign Lord over our civilization, and thus we have understood that in everything we do, including our government, we are answerable to Him. This author had reservations about the Mayor’s early statements that he would sign a “civil unions for homosexuals” bill if one passed the legislature. In the last days of the campaign LePage went to some lengths to abandon that position, citing his earlier “confusion” about the issue, and instead declared his support for real marriage and his opposition to counterfeits of marriage.

The election of pro-morality, pro-life, pro-marriage and pro-family legislators is important, no matter who is elected as governor. This includes the defeat of many Republicans and Democrats who supported homosexual marriage and also refused to send the bill out to a referendum.
